##Insolent Pride------------Proverbs 21-24-Proud-, -Haughty-, -Scoffer-are his nameswho acts with insolent pride.(Insolent Pride Narcissism) (1)

In one sense, we can all be called “hypocrites” because we do not live according to the values we profess.   But for many people, it may not be actual hypocrisy, but rather a moral inconsistency of some sort.  A real hypocrite is different than simply being  inconsistent between our values and actions.

Real hypocrites will say one thing and act in a completely different way, but with several distinctions over standard “inconsistency”

  1. They lie to themselves (and others) that what they say (rather than what they do) is actually true
  2. They will not admit that there is any inconsistency between their words and actions
  3. Because their words typically are based on some (perceived) moral high ground, their hypocrisy just amplifies their proof (to themselves, not in reality) that they are morally superior.

The key with narcissists is to pay attention to what they do, not what they say.

Matthew 7:16-18

16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.

  • Narcissism is the modern colloquial term for what the Bible calls “insolent pride” – see here

  2. On the “narcissist Traits big time hypocrite” you have scripture that talks about bearing fruit, good and bad ….but what about the lack of fruit. Is a lack of fruit biblically the same a bad fruit? I’m intrested to what you may have to say about that. And maybe if we look at a real tree we can get some insight to how to help it bear fruit. I’m including a link about trees that do not bear fruit for different reasons.

    • Hi Joe, that’s a good question that I will need to research more thoroughly to make sure that I have it straight. But off the top of my head, I’m not sure that there is any such thing as “neutral” in spiritual terms. Jesus said in Luke 11:23 – “He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.”
