Narcissism – Proverbs on Narcissism

Narcissism = Insolent Pride = Proud, Haughty SCOFFER (Proverbs 21:24)

Here’s what Proverbs has to say about Narcissists…..

  1. Proverbs 9:7
    He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself…………….. Narcissists will try to trash the reputation of those who dare to confront them about character or performance inadequacies.

  2. Proverbs 9:8
    Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you……… See above

  3. Proverbs 13:1
    Contrast the Upright and the Wicked ] A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke…….. A scoffer will typically refuse to listen to someone who is telling them they’re wrong.  Or, if they appear to be listening, they are internally resisting.

  4. Proverbs 14:6
    A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none………… While Narcissists can spend long hours reading and studying whatever subject is their “platform” for receiving accolades, their self-centeredness prevents them from getting true insight from their learning.

  5. Proverbs 15:12
    A scoffer does not love one who reproves him, He will not go to the wise…….A Narcissist intuitively knows that truly wise people have a high probability of seeing through them, and cannot risk being found out for and reproved for who they are.   Therefore, they will avoid putting themselves in such a position.
  1. Proverbs 19:29
    Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And blows for the back of fools…….. Instead of rebuking a Narcissist, clear boundaries with clear consequences for violating those boundaries is a prime way to deal with Narcissists.  Do not argue with them, just “lower the boom.”

  2. Proverbs 21:24
    “Proud,” “Haughty,” “ Scoffer,” are his names, Who acts with insolent pride………..Insolent pride = narcissism.  Scoffer is another name for those who act with insolent pride.

  3. Proverbs 22:10
    Drive out the scoffer, and contention will go out, Even strife and dishonor will cease.……….The general principle in Proverbs for dealing with a Narcissist is to get them off your team, out of your organization, etc.   Its not until they’re gone that you will understand the true extent of their destructiveness.  They create strife and dishonor for others by a well-developed ability to undermine people without leaving fingerprints.

  4. Proverbs 24:9
    The devising of folly is sin, And the scoffer is an abomination to men………….Even though Narcissists can be quite enticing with their flattery, at the end of the day people really hate being around them.

Who Am I – By “Searching4Wisdom”

My son, if you will receive my words
And treasure my commandments within you,
Make your ear attentive to wisdom,
Incline your heart to understanding;
For if you cry for discernment,
Lift your voice for understanding;
If you seek her as silver
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
Then you will discern the fear of the Lord
And discover the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

The best way to describe me is as a seeker of Him.  There are two primary reasons which I have currently chosen not to identify myself by name:  Continue reading

What This Blog Is About

.

I found myself in a situation that I could not understand.   Things that I was seeing just didn’t quite line up.  Quite distressing.  I cried out to the Lord for help, and He showed me that I was dealing with a narcissist.  I read everything I could on the subject of narcissism and narcissists.  Once I looked at everything through this new lens, things started making sense.   But, I was only reading secular writings on the subject.   Since my deep conviction is that the Bible provides wisdom for all aspects of life, I was quite convinced that the Bible speaks on the subject of narcissism and narcissist.

So, I began to search out what the Bible says about narcissism and narcissists, and quickly understood that narcissism is equal to “insolent pride” in the Bible.  As I began to following linkages such as like “insolent pride -> scoffers -> Pharisees” a whole picture began to form.

The purpose of this blog is to record this search in a way that not only helps me, but also provides HIS wisdom and understanding to others at the same.  My hope is that not only will you understand this subject, but in the process achieve a better appreciation for the depths of God’s word – and that it does speak to everything.

This is a work in process.  I want to be faithful to the Bible and not proof text.  So, I urge you to use this as a launching point to also search it out for yourself in the scriptures.
